Tunes for the Yuletide Log
So… Christmas is a couple of days away. Can you believe it? If you’re anything like us, you have totally been procrastinating and will be standing in lines at King Of Prussia for the next two days. But it’s all worth it, right?! What’s a better time than opening gifts under the Christmas tree with the company of your loved ones and your favorite Holiday tunes in the background?
This year, we made your lives a little bit easier. Check out three Christmas projects (besides Mariah…) to add to your December 25th rotation.
A Killiam Shakespeare Christmas - Killiam Shakespeare
Philly’s own Killiam Shakespeare just released a fabulous new Christmas EP entitled A Killiam Shakespeare Christmas. The album features five of our favorite Christmas standards done in a very unique style. Some of Philly’s heavyhitters helped them out on the project including Alisa Joe (lead singer of Gyrl Problems and backing vocalist for Jazmine Sullivan), Laurin Talese (who murdered the World Cafe Live stage last night), the legendary James Poyser, Ebony Joi, and musical director to the stars Adam Blackstone. Check out the project here.
Christmas with Friends - India.Arie
So India.Arie has been claiming that thisChristmas with Friends album is her best vocal performance yet. To be honest, we were skeptical. However upon first listen and after her amazing concert last week, we were unable to detect a lie. India.Arie is SINGING for her life on this album. The album which was co-produced by the late Joe Sample features standards and a cute original track entitled “Favorite Time of the Year” which was written by her mother. The album includes features from Tori Kelly,Brandy, Kem, Michael McDonald and much more. Check it out here!
Cee Lo’s Magic Moment - Cee Lo Green
Before the scandal hit, Cee Lo put out an amazing Christmas album back in 2012. Besides the classics like “The Christmas Song” and “This Christmas,” Cee Lo covers some non-traditional tunes such as Joni Mitchell’s “River” and “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch.” Our favorite tune however? His cover of “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” with his former co-worker Christina Aguilera. Check out the album here.
Honorable Mention: Christina Aguilera gave us the Christmas bodyroll anthem with “This Year” from her underrated My Kind of Christmas album.
